State Board of Education Seeks Stakeholder Feedback on the Strategic Plan -
The Missouri State Board of Education (Board) and DESE are requesting stakeholder feedback on their Strategic Plan. The survey gathers feedback from a variety of stakeholders — including educators, families, community members, and business leaders — on the areas of focus that should be prioritized in Missouri’s public PK-12 education strategic plan. The insights gathered from the survey will be used to guide the state’s education policies and initiatives over the next several years and participation will help ensure that the Board and DESE have a comprehensive understanding of the needs of students, families, and educators across the state. The survey is easy to complete and should take only about 10 minutes. Your responses are completely anonymous, and your input will be kept confidential. Visit https://www.questionpro.com/a/TakeSurvey?tt=ofU1o0ppnXgECHrPeIW9eQ%3D%3D to complete the survey before 5:00 p.m. on Friday, April 21.

High School Suicide Prevention Presentation
Polk county health department will conduct a Suicide Prevention presentation in select classrooms on April 19 and May 2. Suicide is the third-leading cause of death for teens, after accidents and homicide. About 1 in 15 high school students attempt suicide each year, and roughly 1 in 50 make an attempt serious enough to require medical attention.
Peers and teachers are often the first ones to notice the warning signs – if they
know what to look for. This presentation will help your students understand when and how to get help for themselves or classmates.
If you would prefer your student not to participate in this presentation, please contact Melissa Huechteman at mhuechteman@phr6.org. Students are also able to self opt out. Information used in the presentation can be found at https://classroom.kidshealth.org/classroom/9to12/problems/emotions/suicide.pdf
988 has been designated as the new three-digit dialing code that will route callers to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (now known as the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline), and is now active across the United States.
When people call, text, or chat 988, they will be connected to trained counselors that are part of the existing Lifeline network. These trained counselors will listen, understand how their problems are affecting them, provide support, and connect them to resources if necessary.
