Work with principals on methods of improving technology and network usage in their buildings. Confer with school administration to develop plans and strategies to prevent and/or minimize technology issues proactively. Monitor network, internal communications, and internet traffic throughout the school day to ensure the safety of all students. Work with district administration to provide in-service training to staff members regarding technology. Be visible at varied times in all buildings. Assist with monitoring/reviewing camera security. Communicate and develop a strong working relationship with the administration, contracted service companies, and industry professionals. Provide leadership in assessing technology standards. Provide recommendations for improving and updating technology board policies. Abide by school board policy and applicable law. Assist building principals with investigations utilizing technology resources. Maintain confidentiality. Keep the superintendent informed of problems relating to the technology and safety of the district. Primary Purpose:
The primary purpose of the School Resource Officer (SRO) is to provide a safe and secure environment for the students, staff, and visitors of the Pleasant Hope R-VI School District.
Qualifications:
The SRO will report directly to the Superintendent and shall meet the following qualifications:
1. Preferred two years minimum full-time law enforcement or comparable experience.
2. Meet all criteria to be commissioned by the Pleasant Hope Police Department and submit a completed Pleasant Hope Police Application & Pleasant Hope Schools Application.
3. Meet and maintain all criteria to be POST certified by the State of Missouri (Class A - 21 years or older).
4. SRO Certification recommended, but not required.
5. Demonstrate the ability to work with students, and submit a completed Pleasant Hope R-VI School District Support Staff Application.
6. Completed background check through both Pleasant Hope Police Department and Pleasant Hope R-Vl School District.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
I. Collaborate with district administration and local law enforcement agencies to patrol school grounds, investigate incidents, and investigate RSMO and safe school violations,
2. Assist school administration with anyone causing a disruption or involved in criminal activity on campus and complete all required incident reports.
3. Provide copies of all student/school related police reports and safe school violations to district administration.
4. Work with principals on methods of improving security and safety in their buildings.
5. Confer with school administration to develop plans and strategies to prevent and/or minimize dangerous situations on or near the campus or involving students at school related activities.
6. Monitor traffic at the beginning and end of each school day to ensure the safety of all students.
7. Work with district administration to provide in-service training to staff members regarding safety and security issues.
8. Be visible at varied times in all buildings.
9. Monitor camera security.
10. Communicate and develop a strong working relationship with the sheriff's office, local police, juvenile office, and prosecutor.
11. Provide leadership in assessing safety standards.
12. Provide recommendations for improving and updating safety/security board policies.
13. Abide by school board policy and applicable law concerning interviews and interrogations.
14. Assist building principals with investigations and interrogations.
15. Keep names of students and actions taken by school administration in strictest confidence.
16. Keep the superintendent informed of problems relating to the security and safety of the district.
17. The SRO will maintain an activity log, attendance calendar, and compile monthly safety and security data to be submitted to the superintendent.
18. Serve as a role model for students.
19. Dress in the prescribed SRO Uniform:
1. Class A - polyester collared uniform shirt with the same style pants
2. Class B - BDU pants with District-provided polo
3. & plain leather belt
20. Complete annual required trainings through coordination with Pleasant Hope Schools and the Pleasant Hope Police Department.
21. Maintain the quality of vehicles, technology, and other SRO equipment.
I. The School Resource Officer vehicle may be driven to/from work (within a 30-mile radius of Pleasant Hope Schools District Office).
22. Provide personal pistol and rifle firearms (must be qualified with these weapons).
23. Perform other duties as directed by the superintendent.
