About Me
My name is Norma Farrow. During the last eleven years, I have been teaching at the Pleasant Hope Ranch School. After attending classes at Missouri State University and Drury University, I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Science of Education. At the ranch I teach English classes to all open dorm students. Additionally, I teach an Art Appreciation class.
In each of my English classes, students are engaged in the writing process – prewriting, drafting, revising and editing, rewriting and publishing. Before Christmas, students wrote essays about the topic: “How I Have Improved at the Ranch”. Then the essays were entered in a contest. Additionally, they wrote poetry and short stories. These were published in our annual poetry book that we distribute every Christmas. Throughout the year they will be continuing to improve their writing conventions. My students will compose a variety of texts, using narrative, descriptive, expository, and/or persuasive in various formats, including workplace communication.
