All About Me

After graduating from the University of Arkansas, I taught several years in Magnolia, Arkansas.  My husband and I moved to Missouri, and I am very pleased to be a part of the Pleasant Hope School District.

About My Classroom

Literature

The students will be taking many wonderful journeys by way of books this year.  They will be immersed in the Inuit culture when they read Julie of the Wolves.  While reading The Outsiders, they will experience the 1960's. Students will reach new heights when they read about a young boy attempting to climb Mt. Everest in the book Peak. Many other thrilling adventures await them during this school year.

Each class will read several books using the Cruz Android eReader with a 7" color screen.  Many free books are available for download.  We will be using the Cruz to travel the seas in Treasure Island.  Learning how to compassionately treat horses, and each other, will be studied while reading Black Beauty.

Critical thinking skills will be utilized at every opportunity to encourage the students to develop ideas that will help them grow as a person.

Careers

Each day in Careers, the students will acquire the knowledge and skills to help them transition from school to a career.
The students use the interactive white board to look at career sites they are interested in.  The School-to-Career book is used to help them gather, analyze and apply the information that they have read.  To learn about specific jobs and careers that each student has selected, the Job Box and Career Box are used.

Keyboarding and Computer Applications

In Keyboarding, the students will learn the keying positions, basic keying skills, formatting skills, and information processing skills. Computer Applications will take the skills learned in Keyboarding and apply them to real-life activities. This will help the students see the importance of the computer now and in the future.
