12/5/11 PLEASANT HOPE BOYS BASKETBALL 2-2
Pirates start out the year with a loss to Buffalo and Billings but stepped their game up last week to win two in a row and finish 5th in the Lockwood Tournament. The boys lost to Billings in the first round and drew Lockwood for the next game. The Pirates beat Lockwood 51-38 on Friday night. They were lead by Senior guard Cameron Falk lead the Pirates with 20 points,6 rebounds, and 6 steals. Sophomore guard Aaron Jones also had 20 points and 4 rebounds. Zane McCurry added 8 points and 8 rebounds. Jacob Gettle added 3 points.
On Saturday, the Pirates drew Golden City for the 5th place trophy. The pirates started out the game shooting very well and got a comfortable lead. Golden City charged back with their own run and finished the half with the Pirates up 8 points. The Pirates kept working hard outscored the Eagles by 7 in the 4th quarter. The final score was 63-59. The Pirates were lead by Sophomore Aaron Jones with 27 points. Cameron Falk had 15 points, 5 rebounds and 3 steals. Freshman Zane McCurry got his first Double-Double of the season. Scoring 14 points and grabbing 11 rebounds and going 10 for 12 from the free throw line. He was 6 for 6 from the line in the 4th quarter. We had great effort throughout the team and a good balance of scoring. Josh Gifford finished with 4 points, Jacob Gettle and Cody Davis added 2 points apiece. The Pirates also drew 3 charges in the game (Zane 2, Aaron 1).
The Pirates did very well in the tournament as an 8 seed.
“These two games will give us good momentum for this week where they will play Weableau Tuesday night and Catholic Friday night.”
