PHR6 Schools Focusing on Curriculum Development
There is a huge push happening this year in all Pleasant Hope R-VI schools to develop curriculum documents that are both understandable and practical to all district stakeholders - students, parents, administration, and staff.
The two curriculum document types that will be most helpful to parents and students that are already either developed for each course or are in the developmental stages are syllabi and curriculum maps.
A syllabus contains such valuable items as instructor contact information, general course content, grading policies, materials needed by students, etc. Curriculum maps are calendar-based summaries of more detailed course content, concepts and skills students are expected to understand, and materials and activities that will be used to effect that understanding.
Together, syllabi and curriculum maps give district patrons and staff a valuable view of the district's curricular planning and implementation as well as serving as a point of reference for discussions about curricular, instructional, and assessment issues.
